I am so excited to share with you that I am now listed with the International Association of Professional Birth Photographers!
So, a lot of people have questions about professional birth photography. What better way to address those than in this post?
Q: Why should we have a birth photographer?
A: The day you deliver your new child is one of the biggest days in your life. What I tell my expecting Mommies is that I keep the support group (whoever they may be) free to do just that….provide support. It’s hard for Daddy to be involved when he’s worried about taking the best pictures possible for Mommy. A professional photographer knows their camera inside and out and knows how to give you the best possible photos for any situation, whether that be an operating room, a home birth or anything in between!
Q: When will you come? How long will you stay?
A: My rule of thumb is to come when you are around 4 centimeters dilated or so and are in truly active labor. I stay from that time until around 2 or 3 hours after delivery. This gives me ample time to get your bonding time, families meeting the new baby and the first bath.
Q: Will I get to meet you before?
A: Absolutely! I insist on meeting all of my clients before hand. We’ll get together for coffee or a tea and discuss your expectations for your delivery photos.
Q: How much does birth photography cost?
A: I have several different packages for birth photography. Some include just a disc of images and others include a one-of-a-kind custom album. Please inquire for pricing.
Q: When will we see our photos?
A: It typically takes me two to three weeks to edit photos from a delivery session. Every single photo is hand edited and ready to order/print.
Q: How far in advance should we book?
A: I take a limited number of birth sessions per month, so as soon as possible!
Q: Do you do maternity/newborn photographs?
A: Yes! One of my most popular packages includes a newborn session within the first two weeks of your baby’s life. They never look the same as they do in those first two weeks and they grow up so quickly!
Q: What types of images will you take and what is your photography style?
A: My style is more of a PG-rated, photojournalistic style. I typically don’t show anything you would be hesitant to show your family and friends. I want you to be super excited to show these images off, not worried about censoring them. Of course if you ask for the whole kit-n-caboodle, we can do that too!
Q: Do you travel?
A: I do! Please inquire for travel fees as well.
