Louisville Wedding Photographer | Album Love

I absolutely LOVE showing off my new albums. They are made from substantially thick pages and gorgeous leather. Albums are so important to me (read here to find out a little bit more) because I believe they are the way your children and grandchildren will look at your wedding photos and photos of themselves. These albums aren’t just for weddings, they can be for any sort of portrait session (engagement, new baby, birth, etc.)!

So I know I tried this last year and left off, but I am revamping it for 2013! Each month, starting with this month, you’ll see some ideas of things you could potentially clothe a couple or a family in for a photo shoot. Louisville Wedding Photographer | Prints vs. CD or DVD of Images

Take a look at the photo below. What does it say to you?

If you are like most brides, you got the disc of images form your wedding and you may have printed out a couple of photos for your walls and put the disc away. This is what I did as well. I printed out a whole three photos (watch out now) from out wedding, and the disc is put up in a safe place. I have been thinking a lot about this and would love for my brides to have something substantial to take away from their wedding. An album to put on the coffee table or to bring out in the years to come to show to grandchildren, gorgeous photos for your walls that friends can look at when they come over, personalized thank you cards to send out to your friends and family after the wedding. The discs of images are a way of ensuring the safety of your images. I have actually replaced a couple’s images from a house fire and ever since then I have recommended a fireproof safe or bank safety deposit box for storing those.

So I was sitting with my grandparent’s looking at their wedding photos watching their faces light up as they looked at them. Then I had an epiphany. What would my grandchildren be looking at? Most likely the technology we use to create CDs and DVDs will have changed completely so they may not even be viewable. Think on that….an entire generation could potentially not have any wedding photos. Just look at the 8 track, or even the cassette tapes. The extinction of cassettes has been in our lifetime. Will our wedding images go the same way?

Louisville Wedding Photographer | Emily and Brian

This one should be called, “The Girl So Nice, He Married Her Thrice.” You may remember this gorgeous couple from their surprise wedding or from their engagement session at an airport. Their suprise wedding was such a blast and they truly pulled the wool over the guests eyes….but in a good way! If you didn’t read about it, do! It’s such a cool idea! They were then also married in their church a few months after the suprise. Guess who jumped at the chance to put on those wedding clothes on for a third time. That’s right. And once again, we had a great time. We went to a local park and people were congratulating them just as if it were the big day. Brian responded to the congratulations with “thanks, third time’s a charm!” We traveled around some different spots in Louisville, getting all of the awesome light. Then just as the sun was setting we had a brilliant blue sky in the background. It was so beautiful.

Caldwell Chapel and Garden Court Wedding | Louisville Wedding Photographer | Renee + Grant

Renee and Grant are such a fun loving couple! Their wedding was an absolute blast to shoot. They were married at Caldwell Chapel at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and their reception was at Gardencourt, just a short walk away. I absolutely loved that Renee and Grant wanted to have a first look before the ceremony.
There’s something so intimate about a first look. They partied like rock stars with the band “This, That & the Other.” Grant did his very best version of Highway to Hell. My favorite part though, hands down, was when Renee’s sister wrote and sang a rap song just for Renee to the tune of the theme song from the “Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” I loved it!

Charlie’s delivery was another surprise delivery. Just before delivery, bets were made and written on the white board in the room. Daddy made it back from the cafeteria just in time and he was so excited when he announced….”I have a son!”

The Birth of Violet | Louisville Birth Photographer

When little Violet (Don’t you just love her name?!) made her entrance a few days earlier than expected, the sex was totally a surprise. Mom and Dad had no idea what she was going to be. I had my suspicion she might be a girl though. The first time Violet’s grandmother and great grandmother found out was when they came to the recovery room. My favorite photos from the day are the looks on their faces as they found out Violet was a girl.

MaryBeth and Adam had an awesome idea for their engagement session. They wanted to do their photos at Adam’s family’s house. Once I got to the house, Adam started to tell me a little more about its history. The house is a historic home in Oldham County called the Twigmore House. It was absolutely gorgeous and more beautiful than I could’ve imagined. I had so much fun with Adam and MaryBeth and can’t wait for their wedding….it’s going to be a blast!

You may remember little Preston from his Birth Day. I was so excited we got to do some newborn photos of him as well. He looks so much like his Big Brother now! And he has the most gorgeous little smile. Seriously, I have never seen a newborn baby giggle hysterically in their sleep, but Preston did. Mom and I were wondering what it was he was dreaming of that was so hilarious.

Congrats to the awesome crew at WDRB!

So the very awesome Gilbert Corsey (from WDRB News) told me some great news! He told me that he and photographer Dominik Fuhrmann had been nominated for an Associated Press Award for telling Baby Elizabeth’s story last year. I was so excited for him. The Says are a family who found out they would lose their daughter Elizabeth before or not long after birth. Gilbert told the story so beautifully and it was no surprise when he told me he had won! Then just last week he told me his story had also been nominated for a couple of Emmy Awards. The Says are an amazing family and I was so lucky to have been able to work with them as a part of my work with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. You can watch the Associated Press Award winning and Emmy nominated video of the Say Family below. Warning: Bring some tissues, you’ll need them!

Every now and again, I love to wander around Cave Hill. It seems like I always see something I never noticed before. I love just snapping a few shots of the monuments and the gorgeous flowers they have! This particular time, however, I was out to practice a new technique I had learned. So the last picture you see in this entry is from that technique. I am sure pleased with how it came out!

Super Moon!

The Birth of Preston | Louisville Birth Photographer

Baby Preston thought he’d try to make his appearance at one of the biggest events in Louisville! His Mommy’s water broke while they were at Thunder Over Louisville. After Mom and Dad made their way back to their car, and got to the hospital, it seemed Master Preston would not make his debut for another few hours. So an early morning arrival it was for little Preston. He has the cutest little face!
